Students for Public Art as Social Justice (SPASJ)

Thank you for joining SPASJ in the campaign to install a freestanding memorial on campus to remember the history of Japanese American internment at SJSU.

November 8th 2013 SJSU

Poverty Under the Stars

SPASJ is collaborating with Associated Students and the Cesar Chavez Community Action Center to host the 8th Annual Poverty Under the Stars at SJSU! Join us November 14th to sleep out in solidarity with the 47 million Americans living in poverty. And learn how 18,000 families in our community could be made homeless as a result of the federal Sequester Cuts. Tents will be set up at noon on the lawn in front of the Smith & Carlos Statue. Presentations will take place from 7pm to 9pm followed by an optional sleep out. SPASJ will have a booth set up all day so stop by and introduce yourself! And feel free to contact us for more information. Don't forget to bring your sleeping bag!

SPASJ's Article in the Spartan Daily

Jennifer Bennett (from the Spartan Daily at SJSU) interviewed Jimi Yamaichi (from the Japanese American Museum of San Jose) and student organizers (from SPASJ) regarding their efforts to publicly recognize the events of Japanese American internment on campus. Click HERE to check it out.
